Every year since 2010 in the beginning of October, the big dunes of Merzouga holds a five-day race plus prologue and a marathon stage in the desert. The stages are varied and round 2–300 km long. Navigation is the key and the competitors use the GPS Unik2, the same used on the Dakar Rally.
One year in preparation, two weeks of vacations, 6 days of competition. I build a team of 5 Canadian riders and 1 mechanic to compete at this FIM sanctioned Rally in Morocco. The bikes were sent by boat, we flew by plane and ridden like hell !
These photos were shot at the Merzouga Rally i did in October 2014. They are from various photographers and friends attending the event and only here for souvenirs.
Thanks to everyone!
«Hey man, stop it right there. I think i have a shot!»
The Wonder Woman of Rally. She is a thirteen-time Women's Trial World Champion and ten-time Women's Trial European Champion in outdoor. Now a KTM Factory rider, she is a Top 15 finisher at the Dakar Rally each year.
When i finally arrived at the bivouac, Laia was near the pool talking with her team. Long time was her day finished before mine but kind enough to have a photo with me... waisted, dirty and happy!
Before the official Rally started, we did a dunes and pistes training with our captain Patrick Trahan. I can’t state enough how useful its been, knowing it was our first experience in desert riding for most of us.

Without our mecanic, Stéphane Guertin, things would have been almost impossible. Besides managing our bikes during the Merzouga Rally, he made sure that my KTM 690 Rally Raid was ready to race prior to the event. The summer before, he came to some of my trainings to watch the bikes’s behaviour and his garage became the home of multiple maintenance week-end.
Enjoy all trails. Cherish every sunset.
