Mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers, trails and camping in one of the most remote but coveted outdoor fans to-do trip list.
After flying to Santiago from Toronto, our final airport stop is in Puerto Natales. It is located a bit over 100 km north of the National Park, distance we will cover by a 3h bus drive. It is the most visited park in Chile, averaging over 250,000 visitors/year.
Half of it are tourists like us, coming with a backpack!
To embark on this journey, we went with our experienced friends Selma & William. They are long time hikers, it was their second time in Patagonia and they decided to get a second bite at the cherry. So we played the waiting game while they managed everything, did all the prep, paperworks and reservations.
A 5 stars guided tour with the best guides there is!
The most fantastic day-hike there can be. A 20km round trip to God’s oasis...
From the shore of Grey Lake, the view is unforgettable. Abord the ferry to Refugio Grey, you will be able to appreciate the turquoise and crystal clear ice that forms this huge glacier and free floating icebergs that pass by.
This day’s trek ends at Refugio Cuernos.
We finished our trek in Paine Grande with a one tent pole broken by strong winds on that evening. Everything was booked at the Refugio and we got to wait until 10PM to see if some folks didn’t show up... we got lucky ending up sharing a room and sleeping in bunk beds for the last one!
Before going back to Montréal, we planned a few days chilling in Santiago. If you know William, well you know we had to visit some wineries… life is tough!
Enjoy all trails. Cherish every sunset.
