It is nearly 600 kilometres long to Centrale Brisay and another 90 kilometres along the Caniapiscau Reservoir, all unpaved.
The road's northeastern terminus is almost at the 55th Parallel N, making it the northernmost continuous road in Eastern North America. The terminus is also the farthest point from any town, 800 kilometres from Radisson.
Our trip began with beautiful weather but as we mere moving upper and upper north, not only it was colder but got rainy as well. But nothing was to stop us from our journey and reach Caniaspiscau, the end of the Trans-Taïga Roadhttp://www.escapelikeneverbefore.com/en/members/relais-routier-km-381/38/accomodations/.
We did a detour stop in Chisasibi to touch the James Bay water (cold!!!!!). When coming back, we took the Route du Nord heading to Chibougamau. It gave us not only the opportunity to ride on something different but also to do more mileage on various gravel roads while passing by the village of Parent.
One lesson i got from this trip is to change the 2 tires for brand new before leaving. The set i had at the moment could have last the whole trip, but now i know it was taking chances. And on top of that, the Trans-Taïga is very cutting, seems like everyone knows it up there and its made out of sharp gravel. We even crashed a wedding and got some help from the bride!
We made it! Here’s a video that wraps the whole journey to Caniapiscau. It was shot, edited and made bilingual by my good friend and co-rider Dave Renouf
The north of Quebec is a beautiful and calm piece of land. It is raw and rugged but beautiful.
Enjoy all trails. Cherish every sunset.
